A 6-year-old boy was transported to a hospital in Ohio over the weekend after police said he was restrained and attacked by a pit bull. Three people have been arrested in connection with the case, officials said.
On Saturday, deputies with the Ashland County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in Savannah, located about 50 miles west of Akron, after receiving a report about a child who was bitten on the neck and ear by a pit bull, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, the victim was in serious condition and was airlifted for medical treatment, the sheriff's office said.
Their investigation revealed that the child was handcuffed by his hands and feet when the animal harmed him, the release said. Authorities said they found the supporting evidence while searching the home.
Mother, 2 others taken into custody
The 6-year-old's mother lived at the home in Savannah, police said.
Per the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, the boy's mother was living with a family member of the owner of the home and dog.
Authorities said the homeowner and his pet were not at the scene when deputies arrived but were later found "hiding in a cubby hole upstairs at the residence."
Both adults were taken into custody, the release said. USA TODAY attempted to reach the Ashland County Sheriff's Office for additional details.

A third individual who was present at the home, described as the mother's boyfriend, was also taken into custody after authorities alleged that he "assisted" in restraining the victim.
Jail records did not show charges as of Wednesday morning, but Fox 8 reported that they are pending.
The dog was labeled vicious and taken in by deputies, the release said. An investigation is ongoing.
